In May 2013, eighteen delegates embarked on the SAGE UK 2013 study tour. The focus of the tour was to investigate the delivery of aged care services in the United Kingdom, with a particular emphasis on understanding ‘personalisation’ - the effective equivalent of Australia’s term Consumer Directed Care.
Over the course of twelve days, the group visited ten separate facilities owned and operated by seven different organisations. The tour culminated in attendance at the 2 day National Care Forum (NCF) annual conference in Nottingham. Plenary topics covered in the NCF conference included:
- Current practice in dementia care
- Overview of social service delivery from local authorities
- Death and dying
- Ageing and aged care reform in Australia
- Creating a personalised plan
- Housing and Health
